The Scope of Work for this assignment will include:
Status Quo review of existing rice supply chain and rice storage options, and define future storage needs based on growth in the sector
Including in-person meetings with producers and other rice stakeholders to get input on bottlenecks and challenges of current system for rice producers and aggregators of all sizes
Based on the review and problem definition, the consultant will prepare the functional requirements for rice storage facilities. Including minimum/maximum acceptable size, food safety specifications, conceptual design of equipment needs, etc.
When proposed requirements have been approved by IRG, consultant will conduct study of available options which comply with the proposed specifications and evaluate technical and financial pros/cons of each option, creating a ranking system
In evaluating the storage options, the consultant will evaluate a range of variables, including handling, storage and transportation costs, location of existing paddies and paddy handling facilities, efficiency of movement of paddy from farm to storage and from storage to final destination, capital costs, concession fees, and approximate timeline to achieve profitability.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field
- 5+ years of experience working in grain storage sector
Desired Qualifications:
- Master’s degree preferred
- Senegal experience preferred
- Working proficiency in French preferred
