Epicentre is a non-profit organization, created in 1986 by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) dedicated to research, field epidemiology and training in line with both MSF programmes and Epicentre’s Research Centres in Uganda and Niger. Epicentre is a World Health Organization Collaborating Centre.

Context

In order to help expand MSF’s Hepatitis C activities, a project “Ensuring access to the HCV treatment revolution for HCV/HIV co-infected patients in Low and Middle Income Countries” was submitted to UNITAID. Demonstration projects were set up to prove feasibility of diagnosis and treatment of chronic hepatitis C (India, Myanmar and Mozambique).

As part of the UNITAID project, a new HCV database called “Hepa-MUD”, along with its accompanying protocols and processes, has been developed.
