Correspondent
International Office Region West & Central Africa
Location: Dakar/Senegal
Mission of the position:
Working mainly in West and Central Africa, but also supporting global efforts, the Correspondent will produce and coordinate external communications content from Member Associations, with the ultimate aim of ensuring that fundraising and communications colleagues based in Europe and North America receive relevant and timeous material about the work of SOS Children’s Villages.
The Correspondent will work closely with the regional office for West and Central Africa and report to the Global Editor.
TasksandResponsibilities
Respond to requests for communication material – including text, photos, sound clips and video – from fundraising and communications colleagues based in Europe and North America
Provide regular updates on important news, emergencies and events within the region—which may help in fundraising activities
Write excellent and persuasive communication material, in order to demonstrate the impact of the work of the organisation
Produce, edit and package video content from the field
Provide and facilitate capacity-building and training on storytelling and content production, consent and privacy matters relating to child rights, and
Contribute to the shaping of the SOS Children’s Villages editorial plan and lead in the development of theme-related packages in line with the organisation’s strategic initiatives.
Requirements
Previous working experience of at least 5years in communications (non-profit or international development are preferred) and/or journalism.
Experience working in developing countries, preferably in a media environment.
Previous working experience in producing communications content (writing and mutlimedia)
Fluent in English (SOS Children’s Villages’ working language) and French (SOS International Office Region West and Central Africa’s working language). Knowledge of Portuguese will be an advantage.
Computer literacy (In Design and Photoshop will be an advantage).
Digital campaign knowledge and skills.
Self-driven with the ability to take initiative.
Good interpersonal communications skills
A flexible and adaptable approach required by the conditions of an organisation working in the humanitarian field.
Readiness to travel as and when needed
Able to cope with high levels of stress/able to work in stressful environments, such as an emergencies, and
Strong team player.
Qualification
Degree in Journalism/ Communications/ Political Sciences or a related field.
Five to seven years in journalism or communications, and a good understanding of the global media agenda
The salary will be commensurate with experience and will match industry standards.
