Senegal: Project Manager

The Project Manager will be in charge of overall project management and will facilitate the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the project.

Location: Dakar, Senegal

Responsible to: Programme Coordinator and Country Director

Duties & Responsibilities

•To familiarize him/herself and understand project contract Terms and Conditions, and other essential project documents such as budget, proposal, etc.

•To ensure that the projects is spend according to agreed budgets, all accounting/accountability requirements are met. In-kind and co funding contributions met where applicable.

•Partners and other project team members (including field-based and from implementing partners) are performing well and there is a good relationship with UP.

•Project objectives are being achieved, activities are implemented according to plan.

•To ensure that all donor reporting requirements for the project are met (narrative and financial reports) with provision of high quality and professional information to donors.

•M&E framework in place for project and is implemented. Lessons learned applied.

•Contribute to project/programme development and assist to identify and respond to new funding opportunities

•Assist in representing UP to important stakeholders to maintain UP’s professional reputation and standing in Senegal, develop UP’s expertise in DRR interventions in Senegal, network with relevant stakeholders (Dakar-based)

•To ensure that crosscutting goal of gender balance is mainstreamed in all projects activities.

•To stay informed of emerging trends in development and programming and to communicate these to UP management and project national partner organisations.

•To fulfill any further task as required by UP Country Director.

Person Specification

•Masters Degree or at least BA/BSc (plus experience) in Development Studies, Humanitarian Aid, or related field

•Fluent in English with good working knowledge of French required (or vice versa)

•Must have at least 5 years of work experience in project management, preferably in DRR interventions

•Knowledge and expertise in Disaster Risk Reduction, resilience programming and PVCA processes is a requirement

•Effective interpersonal and communication skills, excellent analytical and report writing skills

•Familiarity with managing ECHO funding is an advantage

•Proficiency in MS Word and Excel is a requirement

•Must be a good team player

•Willing to occasionally work beyond normal office hours and travel to field sites up to 20% of the time
