Purpose of the Assignment

The objective of this consultancy agreement is to undertake a pooled analysis of nutrition data across all 24 countries in West and Central Africa region, and for different sub-regions to understand the predictors of child hood stunting and wasting.

Assignment Tasks / Expected Deliverables

The consultancy will be for 3.5 months (75 working days). Activities are estimated to start by 01 September 2017 and be completed by 30 December 2017

Undertake a pooled analysis using large household surveys (DHS, MICS, SMART) of predictors of child stunting, severe acute malnutrition, adolescent and maternal undernutrition, maternal and adolescent anemia and child overweight/obesity.

Undertake a pooled analysis of the determinants of effective coverage of high impact interventions, e.g. IFA, dietary diversity

Prepare a powerpoint describing the methods and findings.

Identify potential papers (articles) from the findings of which two will be drafted for submission to peer-review journals.

Payments will be made to the consultant according to the following schedule:

30% to be paid upon first deliverables

70% at the end of the contract and delivery of last reports

Qualifications of Successful Candidate

Education

  • Advanced University degree in public health/nutrition, epidemiology, statistics, Data/Information Management or other related field (At least MsC or PhD);
  • Years of relevant experience

  • At least 5 years’ experience in conducting statistical analysis including multiple regression, predictive analysis
  • Evidence with previous similar work undertaken within the last 5 years
  • Experience using Statistical packages (e.g. R, SPSS, SAS, Matlab) and with visualization tools including Excel and Tableau.
  • Proven ability to quickly analyze complex data, and identifying what is relevant
  • Experience with UNICEF and good knowledge of malnutrition concerns in Sub-Saharan Africa will be an asset
