FIDH (International Federation for Human Rights) is an international non-governmental organisation based in France whose mission is to promote respect for the principles enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. FIDH brings together 184 national human rights organisations active on five continents.
FIDH is looking for an individual with motivation and experience in the field of communications to fill the position of Director of Communications.
Based in Paris at the FIDH International Secretariat, the Director of Communications will work closely with the members of the International Secretariat, under the supervision and responsibility of the Executive Directorate.
The Director’s mission is to increase FIDH’s visibility among influential players, in public opinion and in its support network.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director is responsible for developing FIDH’s multi-year communication strategy, and its annual breakdown, and for drawing up and monitoring the corresponding budget. The Director will report on and evaluate activities completed.
The Director draws up the institutional communication part of the multi-year and annual communication strategy and thus is responsible for:
developing and monitoring institutional communication tools and actions (communication campaigns, FIDH’s annual plan and report, films, graphic charter, newsletters, leaflets, goodies);
ensuring that these tools are well assimilated internally (by the International Secretariat, the IB and the leagues) and that they are well disseminated to the public at large;
organising and orchestrating institutional public events, special actions and other events that support the desks’ activities;
developing contacts and partnerships with the media, the cultural sector (publications, cinema, music, theatre), opinion leadership, communities and communication agencies;
facilitating the work of the pool of FIDH translators.
The Director validates the annual action plans of the Press, Web and Publications desks and supervises their implementation.
Working with the operations and advocacy departments, the director prioritises the communication activities of the geographic and the thematic desks, and the delegations to the intergovernmental organisations, assists them in determining their communication activities and coordinates the implementation of these activities (press releases and conferences, videos, infographics, internet sites, report lay-outs, web tools, media packages).
The Director’s managerial functions are to:
supervise the communication department team (Press, Web and Publications)
contribute to the internal evaluation of development, uptake and use of evaluation tools;
enhance liaison between the desks and the communication department
ensure external representation and internal dynamism;
participate in the management team.
QUALIFICATIONS
At least 10 years of professional experience in a similar position
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in French and English; knowledge of another language is an asset;
International career and experience in the associative sector is a definite asset;
Good interpersonal relations, ability to represent the organisation and work efficiently with a variety of contact persons;
Ability to bring people together;
Commitment to the goals of FIDH and motivation to work in the non-profit sector
REMUNERATION
Contract of indeterminate duration (CDI), full time, to start as soon as possible
Contract according to French law, 35 hours/week
