Position title: Chargé/e de mission in the OIE Science and New Technologies Department

Salary: 2 450 Euros Net / month + benefits (salary exempt of French income tax, annual bonus)

Duration: 12 months, potentially renewable

Context:

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) is the intergovernmental organisation responsible for improving animal health worldwide. The standards it develops for the trade of live animals and products of animal origin are recognized by the World Trade Organization as reference international sanitary rules (http://www.oie.int/fr/).

The OIE, previously known as the « Office international des épizooties », was created on the 25th of January, 1924. Its headquarters are based in Paris. It comprises 181 Member Countries and is present on all continents through 12 Representations or Bureaus in total.

Following the OIE Resolution No. 26 adopted at the OIE General session in 2015, Combating Antimicrobial Resistance and Promoting the Prudent Use of Antimicrobial Agents in Animals, and in line with the Global Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), the OIE

Positioning and reporting

Under the authority of the Deputy Director General, International Standards and Science and technical supervision of the OIE Head of the Science and New Technologies Department

Job purpose

The Chargé/e de mission in the OIE Science and New Technologies Department will support the Tripartite team working as the Secretariat to the UNSG IACG on AMR. and will provide general support on the OIE work related to antimicrobial resistance,

Missions and activities

Provide specific support to the Tripartite team working as the Secretariat to the UNSG IACG on AMR

· Act as focal point for all issues related to animal health and the specializations covered by OIE;

· Respond to queries and requests from the IACG officers and members, preparing written responses, briefing notes and background papers, contributing expert content to and reviewing broader IACG documents to ensure OIE and animal health matters are accurate and appropriately reflected;

· Liaise between the IACG secretariat and relevant OIE managers and experts to ensure requests, perspectives and issues are clearly communicated and fully understood;

· As needed, take notes and prepare summaries or reports of meetings and teleconferences of the IACG and any subsidiary bodies that may be established.

Provide general support on AMR related works

· Participate in the technical work related to the IACG Working Groups in particular on optimising use of antimicrobials and integrated surveillance. Contribute to drafting papers, articles and other relevant informative material for OIE publications and the relevant website

· Represent the OIE at external meetings; participation in international meetings or duty missions;

· Support the implementation of the OIE Strategy on Antimicrobial resistance and the Prudent Use of Antimicrobials

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications

· University degree in Veterinary Medicine and/or relevant Masters programme (animal science, public health) similar degree

Requirements

Technical skills

· Exposure to antimicrobial resistance related topics;

· Strong analytical skills;

· High proficiency (oral, reading, speaking) in English;

· Good computer skills in a Microsoft environment.

Additional skills

· Knowledge of Spanish and/or French is an asset;

Interpersonal skills

· Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, interpersonal);

· Organisational awareness: strong ability to establish priorities and work within tight timelines

· Courtesy, tact and ability to establish and maintain good working relations in a multinational and multicultural environment;

Working conditions

The post is a full-time position at the OIE Headquarters in Paris and entails regular missions abroad.
