Background
Within Handicap International Federation, the advocacy team, composed of 8 persons and attached to the Federal General Direction, is in charge of defining, implementing and coordinating the advocacy strategy. It implies liaising with policy makers, engaging with networks, participating in international conferences and events, raising awareness of the general public and the media in order to achieve policy change in Handicap International field of actions.
The advocacy team works in coordination with other stakeholders within Handicap International network. The activities are implemented in close collaboration with missions and programs, and based on evidence collected on the field. National Associations and the Foundation are also closely involved in designing the global strategy and conveying the messages towards their own interlocutors at national level
Job description
You will come as a support to the advocacy team at a time when decisive action has to be taken to influence the international dynamic currently developing on the use of explosive weapons in populated areas. Your major mission will be to organize a workshop allowing various stakeholders to share their views and express recommendations towards States actors involved on issues pertaining to explosive weapons with a focus on victim assistance.
Your main tasks will be to:
1/ Organize a workshop for representatives of civil society and international organizations on victim
assistance related topic :
- Support in finalizing terms of reference for the workshop
- Liaise with identified participants on the contents and on the logistics
- Ensure the timely production of necessary documents and tools
- Coordinate with other internal interlocutors involved within Handicap International
- Ensure the smooth proceedings of the workshop and the good quality of its outcome
- Manage the logistics and budget for the workshop
- Support in follow-up and dissemination of conclusion among relevant targets
2/ Provide support in finding adequate institutional funding for advocacy projects and initiatives related to this topic
3/ Provide ad hoc support in the coordination and follow-up of various initiatives and meetings to raise awareness of states on advocacy related topics
Personal specification
You have :
· An University degree in international relations, arm control, humanitarian action, development
· A proven Experience and understanding of the global issues related to arm control and/or victim assistance
· 3 - 5 years of experience of influencing policy (advocacy), including organization of events such as workshops, conferences, round tables
· Track record of managing projects with institutional fundin
· Good interpersonal and networking skills and a commitment to team work
You are :
· Appreciate for your organization skills and methods, and your excellent verbal and written communications skills
· Able to work under pressure
· You are fluent in written and spoken English are essential, French is highly desirable.
Employment Conditions
· From 1800 euros depending on profile and experience
· 35h/week
· +8% for extra cost living
· 50% of your transportation
