SOS Children’s Villages International works through member associations in over 133 countries worldwide.
The International Regional Office for West and Central Africa (WCAF) directly supports Member Associations (MAs) in 18 of these countries and is currently seeking an
Internal and External Communications Coordinator -Dakar based-
Mission of the position:
The Internal and External Communications Coordinator promotes, strengthens and protects SOS Children’s Villages image and reputation in the WCAF region and worldwide, and among its key audiences.
**Main tasks/responsibilities:
· Act as main competence person and contact point in all matters relating to communication for Member Associations including developing and leading training sessions (external communications, use of social media etc.)
· Act as contact point and media spokesperson for regional (and local) media, in close cooperation with and agreed by the Regional or National Director
· Co-ordinate communications activities within the region and ensure consistency with the SOS CV’s overall strategy, relevant policies and brand strategy.
· Establish systems to measure results and share best practice (within the region)
· Implement internal communication standards in the region and promote the intranet with Member Associations in the region
· Training Member Associations on communications, using social media, media relationships
In accordance with the organisation’s child protection policy, all employment is subject to applicable background checks, including criminal record checks where possible.
· Serve as the Intranet editor responsible for uploading content on the intranet and support with editing work on behalf of the Member Associations
· Drive internal and external communications from the promotion of informal user generated content (i.e. blogs, social media (e.g. community sites), wikis etc.)
**Experience, technical qualifications and personal skills:
· A proven track record of at least 3-5 years in Public Relations/ communication/ advertising/ promotion/ journalism
· Degree level education in journalism or related field and demonstrated experience of working with Social Media (Twitter, Facebook, Medium, blogging)
· Creative experience and skills to identify and write what makes a ‘good story’ (newsletter, articles)
· Excellent editorial skills and attention to detail
· Experience in project management
· Experience in training others on communication (external and internal)
· Experience in working for or with a non-governmental organisation in the West and Central Africa region
· Excellent written and communications skills in both French and English, Portuguese or Spanish desirable
· Very good computer skills and knowledge of software such as MS Office - MS SharePoint, HTML or Photoshop skills are an asset
· Ability to use initiative and work independently under pressure and within sometimes tight deadlines
· Can identify with the vision, mission and values of SOS Children’s Village
